Kartika Prima Abadi (KPA), one of Indonesia’s leading Buton Mastic Asphalt mining and processing companies, faced serious internet connectivity challenges at its remote mine site.

Located in Buton Regency, Bau-Bau, Southeast Sulawesi, KPA’s operations span a mining site, an asphalt processing plant, warehouses, an administrative office, and employee housing.

With more than 300 people living and working across a mining area of over half a hectare, the need for a stable, high-speed internet connection is no longer optional, it’s a basic requirement.


Before LNS: A Complicated Internet Setup

Before implementing LNS’s internet bonding solution, the connectivity situation at the mine site was highly complex:

  • Fully dependent on SIM card data quotas.
  • Employees required up to 500GB of data per month.
  • The IT team had to purchase 9 Telkomsel SIM cards to meet that 500GB data demand.
  • Each SIM card was inserted into 9 separate indoor routers.
  • The IT team had to constantly swap SIM cards due to uneven data consumption — for example, the SIM card at the employee housing (mess) would run out faster than the ones at the office or the plant.
  • When the mess’s SIM card ran out, the IT team had to take a SIM from the office and move it to the mess so employees could still access the internet after working hours.
In total, PT Kartika Prima Abadi relied on 9 Telkomsel SIM cards with a collective quota of 450GB for all employees.

9 Routers, 9 SIM Cards, and One Very Busy Server Room

This situation left the IT team overwhelmed. Every day, they had to manually monitor data quotas across 9 different routers. There was no redundancy, no load balancing, and most importantly, no static public IP for a VPN connection to headquarters.

As shown in the installation photos, both industrial outdoor 4G routers were positioned in different directions, each connecting to a separate Telkomsel transmission tower to maximize signal strength and connection stability.

The result? A significant boost in download speed, from 12.95 Mbps to 46 Mbps, nearly 4 times faster!
